Answer writing should begin alongside your preparation, not after finishing the syllabus. Start with PYQs from one specific topic in the syllabus. This helps you understand what UPSC actually asks and how questions are framed. Don’t aim for perfection in the beginning. Aim for consistency.

Keep it simple. Write 1–2 answers daily in 150–250 words. Focus on structure first: a clear introduction, organized body with dimensions, and a balanced conclusion. Even if your content feels average, improving structure early makes a big difference over time.
Next, evaluate your own answer. Check whether you addressed the directive like “discuss” or “critically examine.” See if you added multiple dimensions instead of writing in one narrow angle. This is where real improvement in answer writing happens.
Finally, rewrite weak answers. That second attempt builds depth, clarity, and confidence. If you practice consistently and review honestly, your answer writing will gradually become sharper and more Mains-ready.
